Blackbird Farm Fruit is grown using traditional methods supported with modern day know how, such as our hydro-cooler. This means we are able to produce great tasting fruit for you to enjoy, fresh from the Garden of England.
Our harvest begins in late June, with early cherry varieties such as Merchant and Van being the first to ripen. Although these cherries are a brighter hue of red, these vibrant varieties are simply delicious, and truly mark the beginning of summer.
The cherry harvest progresses and as it does each variety ripens and is handpicked, washed and cooled within 90 minutes. This ensures we capture the fruit at its finest unspoilt quality. The cherries are then hand-packed ready for you to enjoy at their best.
As our cherry season draws to a close we then have a couple of weeks before we start gathering in our pear crop. We then move into our apple orchards which we harvest in early October with autumn now firmly approaching.
Along with our commitment to producing the best quality fruit we possibly can, we endeavour to run our farm efficiently, safely and with high standards of environmental and social responsibility. We are proud to be members of LEAF (Linking Environment and Farming) which is the leading organisation in promoting food and farming that is sustainable. Our produce meets all Red Tractor standards and inspections; they too insist on food safety, protecting the environment and traceability.
In order to maintain our exacting standards after the cherries leave the farm, we only supply our fruit to the world renowned Covent Garden, and to one stand in other key wholesale markets. Our premium fruit can be purchased from the best farm shops, premier green grocers and retailers, so please look out for our distinctive blackbird logo.
We do not currently sell our fruit from our farm gate to the public. We can however, arrange for local select retailers to collect fruit direct from the farm. Please email in the first instance.
“OMG we bought a whole box of your Kordia black cherries at the weekend for our garden party. Our guests couldn’t believe they were English as they were extremely large, very sweet, crispy and full of flavour. ”Keith Randell
