Steam into the New Year on the Kent & East Sussex Railway

Feeling a bit flat after Christmas, then why not visit Tenterden’s Steam Railway and enjoy a nostalgic journey through the beautiful winter landscape on either 30, 31 December 2017 or 1 January 2018.
After trains leave the picturesque town of Tenterden they travel across the marshes and Wealden Valley to the stations at Rolvenden, Wittersham Road, Northiam and Bodiam. At Rolvenden there is a viewing platform where passengers can see newly renovated locomotives and others which are already in service.
Before arriving at Bodiam, passengers can see the magnificent medieval castle which was built to defend the highest navigable point of the Rother. The train also passes through fields which were once covered with the typical hop gardens that brought so much traffic to this railway.
Bodiam Castle is a 10-minute walk away across the valley and passengers deciding to visit the Castle can take advantage of reduced admission when showing their Kent & East Sussex Railway ticket used for travel on the same day as making a visit to the Castle.
Bodiam Castle has several events taking place post Christmas which are free with Castle admission including a ‘Candle Lit Story Weekend’ between 11am and 3pm where visitors can join costumed storytellers for medieval-inspired children’s stories in the candle-lit tower. The ‘Light and Celebration Event’ takes visitors through the decorated castle to discover what advent and the twelfth night would have meant to the residents of Bodiam Castle.
Steam trains on 30, 31 December 2017 and 1 January 2018 depart from Tenterden at 10.40, 11.45, 1.15 and 2.20. The 11.45 and 2.20 have on-train catering and access for wheelchair users. In addition to hot and cold drinks why not pre-book a Kids Munch Box, Cream Tea or Ploughman’s to enjoy onboard these trains. All Catering orders for these trains must be made in advance by Christmas Eve.
The Station Refreshment Rooms at Tenterden offer plenty of additional tasty options including a big breakfast, roast most Sundays and afternoon tea.
Free parking at Tenterden Station. Tickets also include free entry into the Colonel Stephens Museum at Tenterden.
