Great Taste, the world’s most coveted fine food awards, celebrating the very best in food and drink, has announced the Great Taste stars of 2021. Out of 14,113 entries, Bean Smitten’s Classic Blend was awarded the highest award of 3 Stars, which only 1.5% achieved, propelling their product amongst the elite.
Bean Smitten is over the moon with the award! The judges commented “Good medium roast delivering an espresso that we agreed is the hit of the day. A fruity harmony rolls into a medley of chocolate and spiciness with balanced acidity and we detected syrup clinging to the palate in an enticing way. With milk it finishes like fruit cake, round and sweet and spicy and warm as a June day. Coffee at its perfect best.” And “There are salty and savoury notes at the front of this coffee, complex and well rounded. With milk added there is a sweetness and great body, producing an outstanding cup of coffee”.
Judged by over 500 of the most demanding palates, belonging to food critics, chefs, cooks, restaurateurs and producers, as well as a whole host of food writers and journalists, Great Taste is widely acknowledged as the most respected food accreditation scheme for artisan and speciality food producers. As well as a badge of honour, the unmistakeable black and gold Great Taste label is a signpost to a wonderful tasting product, which has been discovered through hours and hours of blind-tasting by hundreds of judges.
Darren Tickner, owner of Bean Smitten said “I am thrilled to receive this recognition from The Guild of Fine Food. Our skill in roasting is just a tiny part of the story behind our Classic Blend’s success. It goes way beyond that. Our importer, the producers and their farming communities’ uncompromising pursuit of quality are instrumental in bringing this coffee to the table.”
Recognised as a stamp of excellence among consumers and retailers alike, Great Taste values taste above all else, with no regard for branding and packaging. Whether it is vinegar, granola, bacon or cheese being judged, all products are removed from their wrapper, jar, box or bottle before being then blind tasted. The judges savour, confer and re-taste to decide which products are worthy of a 1, 2 or 3 star award.
There were 14,113 entries into Great Taste this year and of those products, 218 have been awarded a 3-star, 1,138 received a 2-star and 4,027 were awarded a 1-star accolade.
Great Taste 2021 reaches its exciting finale on Sunday 17th October, when the world of fine food will come together at the Harrogate based Fine Food Show North, to find out the Great Taste Golden Fork trophy winners for each region, with the final applause reserved for the Great Taste Supreme Champion 2021.
