Biddenden Food Day raises over £6,000 for Air Ambulance

Biddenden Vineyards’ Food Day raises over £6,000 for Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance Biddenden Vineyards hosted their 13th annual “Taste the Best of Produced in Kent” on Sunday 9th June 2019, showcasing the very best food, drink and craft the county has to offer, whilst raising funds for the Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance. The event was once again extremely well supported, with visitors arriving from the moment the gates opened and throughout the day and loading up on produce from stand holders who lined the vineyards’ main yard and into the winery. Over 50 stall holders attended, each hand-picked and producing a wide range of food, drink & craft products. There were also plenty of options for those wishing to enjoy lunch on site and the perfect weather meant many were able to enjoy ploughman’s lunches and other delicious foodie treats amongst the vines. Julian Barnes, Managing Director, commented “We would like to thank everyone who came and supported this event, whether visiting for the first time or a long time supporter. The Air Ambulance plays a vital role and to be able to raise much needed funds whilst also showcasing all the county has to offer when it comes to food, drink & craft makes for an enjoyable and also worthwhile day out” Julie Clare, Head of Corporate Relations at the Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance said “The amount raised this year is incredible and we are truly grateful for the continued support that is given by Biddeneden Vineyards” Plans are already underway for next year’s event, which will be held on Sunday 14th June 2020. The vineyard is open to visitors throughout the year, during which it will also be celebrating its 50th anniversary. More information may be found at www.biddendenvineyards.com -ENDS- Notes to editors: Kent’s original vineyard, Biddenden was established by the Barnes family in 1969, celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2019. The vineyard has remained family owned and is today run by the second & third generation, drawing on many years of experience in winemaking at Biddenden. Eleven varieties of grapes are grown across 23 acres, producing award-winning white, red, rosé and sparkling English wines. Ortega, Biddenden’s signature wine, accounts for approximately half of the vineyards. Approximately 80,000 bottles of wine are produced each year and all the grapes are estate grown, with all vine work & picking carried out by hand to ensure that the very best quality grapes are selected to produce Biddenden’s wines. Pressing, fermentation and bottling is also carried out on site, and the majority of wines are sold directly from the cellar door. The famous Biddenden Cider is also produced on site to the Barnes traditional family recipe, using locally grown culinary & dessert apples along with farm-pressed Kentish apple & pear juices including Clearly Juice, a range of clear, wine-like juices. Visitors are welcome at the vineyard year-round and are free to walk the vineyards on a self-guided tour, or join an open tour which runs every Saturday from April to October, providing an excellent introduction to Biddenden. For a more personal experience, private tours are also available by prior arrangement. The vineyard shop offers tastings of Biddenden’s wines, ciders & juices as well as stocking a wide selection of locally produced food & drink. Sharing platters are also available on a walk-in basis along with drinks by the glass or bottle to enjoy overlooking the vineyards Biddenden Vineyards, Gribble Bridge Lane, Biddenden, Kent TN27 8DF 01580 291726 www.biddendenvineyards.com Facebook: www.facebook.com/biddendenvineyard / @biddendenvineyard Instagram: @biddendenvineyard Twitter: @biddendenvine LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/company/biddenden-vineyards-limited / For further information or image requests please contact Vikki Eames, That Little Marketing Co 07872 429906 vikki@thatlittlemarketing.co
