Have fun with a Quiz Trail – explore in a new way! We love sharing the Kent history we discover!
Explore more of one of our fantastic Kent seaside towns – maybe Broadstairs, Deal & Walmer, Folkestone or Herne Bay? Quiz Trails are educational for children! Here’s the origin of a saying we all use.
Bob’s your uncle - Who’s Bob? In 1887, the British Prime Minister was Robert Gascoyne- Cecil (above), who was Lord Salisbury. He appointed his nephew Arthur James Balfour as Minister for Ireland which was both surprising and unpopular at the time. The phrase 'Bob's Your Uncle' was coined when Arthur referred to the Prime Minister as 'Uncle Bob'. So ‘Bob’s your uncle’ is another way of saying ‘your success is guaranteed’ and ‘there you have it - it’s done’.
