Due to uncertainty around the hosting of events during the COVID-19 pandemic,
The Event Umbrella has, with the support
of Canterbury City Council, taken the difficult decision to cancel this year’s
Canterbury Food & Drink Festival 2020.
The council's Museums and Cultural Programme Director, Michelle Moubarak, said: "We're sorry it has not been possible for the Canterbury Food and Drink Festival to go ahead as planned this year, but look forward to working with The Event Umbrella on the 2021 edition."
This decision was not taken lightly; the festival is a huge part of Canterbury and its popularity reaches far beyond the city walls. Its cancellation will carry both economic implications for those involved as well as having an impact on our community’s collective cultural experience.
The health and well-being of our community is paramount. We have worked hard on mitigation measures and how to deliver the event safely, but to do so would have compromised the experience, atmosphere and viability of the event. This is not something we can knowingly do.
We are so sad, but we know that we can plan for an event in 2021 that will bring our community, producers and performers together in a celebration of the best of Kent.
