Mike Nolan lives in Broadstairs! He was a member of ‘Bucks Fizz’, along with Bobby Gee, Cheryl Baker and Jay Aston.
The group was formed specifically to take part in the Eurovision Song Contest … which they won. Their first hit 'Making Your Mind Up!' sold four million copies worldwide and they went on to become one of the biggest selling bands of the 1980s.
On 11th December 1984, the tour bus that the band and crew were travelling on, from a sold-out gig in Newcastle, collided with an articulated lorry. Thankfully nobody was killed but there were multiple injuries to all the band members and many of the crew. Mike Nolan suffered the worst injuries.
Following this, nowadays Mike, who since the crash suffers with epilepsy, runs a charity raising money for head injury research called ‘Headfirst’. Mike continues to perform with original Bucks Fizz members Cheryl Baker and Jay Aston under the name ‘The Fizz’.
