Exciting news! We have been featured on BBC Gardeners’ World (26th April – Episode 8) looking at plastic use and our commitment to reduce the plastic consumption within our business and the recent news of Faversham becoming a Plastic Free Community. We have taken the narrative that 2019 is our year zero, essentially not allowing any single use plastic to be given or sold to customers. This is being achieved in a few main ways:
• We have developed the POSIpot which is a paper takeaway pot for customers, meaning as a business, we are taking responsibility with reusing our pots within the nursery. We are working with the Abbey School with a recycling scheme to shred up redundant pots which can then be made back into new pots or other useful products. This will be great for students to see a new form of technology.
• We have created a compost bag for life scheme which will save us selling around 1000 single use plastic bags of compost over the course of this season.
• We have created self-write wooden labels for customers saving over 5000 un-recyclable labels being printed
• We are selling seeds and feeds by weight removing unrecyclable packaging.
We are open everyday and this year are growing even more edibles including many unusual and heritage varieties, and we are happy to advise, help plan and show you our work.
