7th June 2023
In the month of June head out and explore more of one of our fantastic Kent seaside towns – maybe Broadstairs or Folkestone or Herne Bay?
Here’s a lively character from Folkestone!
Kent resident ‘Lord Toby Jug’ stood as a candidate against Conservative Michael Howard for the Folkestone and Hythe constituency in the 2005 General Election. Standing for The Monster Raving Loony Party, which had been started by the late ‘Screaming Lord Sutch’ in 1983, Lord Toby Jug received 175 votes so sadly didn’t make it to Westminster. His manifesto policies included introducing a 99p coin to save change. He ran his campaign under the slogan “Don't be a Mug, Vote Lord Toby Jug”.
