Food and Drink takes centre stage at the Kent County Show 2018
Kent’s greatest showcase for farming and food will this year have the largest number of Produced in Kent members participating, with over 50 member businesses across the showground, selling delicious Kentish food, drink, products or demonstrating cooking at the Kent County Show on 6, 7, 8 July 2018.
Based in their regular position next to the main ring and the blacksmiths at the Show Ground, Detling, the Produced in Kent village houses Kent’s finest and multi award winning produce and products to take home or enjoy on the day.
In the Maidstone building, Matthew Kearsey-Lawson of Kent Fine Foods, is hosting cookery demonstrations over the weekend by chefs from around the county including one from previous Kent Young Chef finalists and winners on Sunday afternoon.
Produced in Kent’s Taste of Kent Awards also begins in the National Cherry and Soft Fruit Show marquee with the judging of the Garden of England Champions, Cherry and Soft Fruit classes, sponsored by the Kent County Agricultural Society. This year for the first time it will include not only the tastiest cherries, strawberries and raspberries, but also blackberries. The winners will be chosen by midday on Friday 6th July, so be sure to pop into the marquee and see which of Kent’s growers have won. The winners will be presented with their trophies at the Taste of Kent Awards dinner in March 2019.
Stephanie Durling of Produced in Kent comments: “The Kent County Show is a wonderful showcase for the farming and food sector here in Kent and our members will be encouraging visitors to think local and eat local, to support them and their businesses.”
