1. We are very excited that you are joining our Produced in Kent community – what is your affiliation with food and drink?

Having both grown up in “The Garden of England” we are passionate about our county and all our land has to offer. We are now very much at home supporting artisan producers that are connected to our local farms.

Jason: “I’ve had a passion for food for as long as I can remember. Having had an extensive career as a chef all over the UK and abroad. I have also taught students and mentored corporate teams sharing my passion for food, cooking and local produce.”

Roger: “I’ve always supported local business and produce whether at home or abroad. Having previously worked in Germany I loved exploring the local markets, searching out and tasting great produce and seasonal ingredients. I now bring this passion back home and enjoy discovering and working with local producers in Kent.

We are now using our knowledge and passion to style sets, create lighting concepts and edit our images to showcase the clients food and products.

Stepstone Imaging a photographic business founded on a great friendship and a strong professional partnership. We are a small business based in the “Heart of Kent”. Jason’s background in the food industry along with Roger’s work in product management and marketing means that we compliment each other well.

Our motto is “Focused to Create” and as such we feel it’s important to talk to our clients and get to know the story behind their business, style and brand. Along with the brief from the client we use our skillset to create quality images that embrace those values.

We have our own photographic studio along with various props and backdrops that can be used for styling. We do have requests for lifestyle and portraiture shots. Of course we offer these too! They are a nice compliment to the food/product shots and show details of where they are produced, purchased or consumed.

3. Can you share one photo top tip that will infinitely improve the quality and impact of one’s photo?

So you’re after some insider secrets eh? How about this:

When photographing a plate of food indoors. Turn off the lights and use a window as the only light source, use a table up against a large window so that the light rakes across the table from the side. Pay attention to where the shadows fall as this will help to bring three dimensionality to the image.
