Macknade Introduces Innovative Sustainable Wine Offer in Partnership with Borough Wines

Has your Dry January already come to an end? Don’t beat yourself up, instead rethink how you drink, and enjoy sustainable wine with Macknade. The partnership with Sustainable Wine Solutions from Borough Wines aims to bring sustainable wine options to Macknade, starting with a bottle deposit scheme, to the Faversham & Ashford stores.

Borough Wines champion independent winemakers using alternative formats to successfully provide a bottling service and wine on tap. So, whether you’re looking to discover new varieties like Xarello and Albana di Romagna, or prefer a classic Cabernet Sauvignon or Pinot Grigio, there’s something for every palate.

Jackie Oakley, Wine & Spirits Manager at Macknade comments, “We’re always looking for newinitiatives and working towards a more sustainable approach as a retailer, without compromising on thequality of the products. Borough Wines share our ethos in paving the way for sustainable practices and they consider all the processes in winemaking, right from the grape, through to the packaging and transport of the wine and finally to the customer experience instore. It’s also a fantastic range of interesting wines from high quality producers, so we’re extra excited to be collaborating on this one”

Macknade will be launching their partnership with Borough Wines with a Bottle Return Deposit Scheme, encouraging customers to return their bottle to be cleaned and reused instead of recycled. The Bottle Return scheme brings a new, sustainable lease of life to the traditional wine bottle: each one can be returned, sterilised, and reused at least 30 times, reducing the carbon footprint of each bottle by up to 95%. Every bottle returned saves the energy involved in manufacturing, transporting and disposing or recycling of another unnecessary glass bottle.

"We are so excited to have our wines at Macknade. We love their spirit of collaboration and community, as that is absolutely how we see the future of sustainable eating and living. And of course, like Macknade we are completely committed to quality. Our small, independent producers are from Europe only, to limit food miles, and they are dedicated to practising sustainable viticulture, with most being certified organic and vegan. We treat our role as allowing those producers to continue their work of respecting the earth by transporting their wine in bulk to our London winery. From there we package the wine into Refillable kegs or Return Bottles - the only systems of their kind in the UK. We are super excited to introduce the people of Kent to this fantastic circular system and these unusual, delicious wines,” saysCorinna Pyke, Marketing and Partnerships Director of Borough Wines.
