Never Mind the Caffeine

Lost Sheep Coffee Launches Sugar-Treated Decaf[/caption] Love speciality coffee but want to drink less caffeine? Lost Sheep Coffee has come through once again with the launch of its new decaf capsule, but this is no ordinary capsule. The coffee is made from the highest-grade speciality Arabica coffee beans, which are single origin and from the small town of Pitalito in Colombia, delivered straight to Lost Sheep Coffee where they are carefully hand-roasted in Whistable. The capsules are certified 100% compostable by the industry gold standard TUV Austria. The Nespresso-compatible coffee capsule made from wood bark (or Lignin) but crucially, what makes Lost Sheep capsules extremely different is they are fully air-tight for freshness life of 12+ months. The coffee decaffeination process usually ends up stripping all the great flavour from coffee beans, a problem any decaf drinker will know all too well! This new process uses sugar cane enzymes, which is completely natural and involves no nasty chemicals. First you expose the beans to water and steam, this increases the moisture and swells the beans in order to facilitate the extraction of caffeine. Then the beans are gently washed in the sugar enzyme solution, which dissolves the caffeine, but leaves ALL the flavour. Finally, the beans are dried to their original moisture levels. (If you want to get your geek on, check out the editor’s notes for the really science-y info.) “It was a logical next step to create a Decaf capsule to stand with Funky Camper and Smooth Journey, but it was very important to me to find a way to extract the caffeine without losing the great taste of our coffee. The best part with this new decaf process is that it allows the natural flavours of the coffee to shine even after the caffeine has been extracted, finally putting an end to boring decaf.” Says Stuart Wilson, Founder of Lost Sheep Coffee. Lost Sheep Coffee has coffee shops in Canterbury and Ashford’s McArthur Glen shopping outlet, as well as the micro-roastery in Whitstable. Living the Dream £4.20 (10 x 5.6g pods): This speciality coffee is described as a Big Bold Body, yet amazingly smooth with no need for additional sugars. “Super smooth and sweet everyday coffee! Notes of milk chocolate and rich caramel when drunk, a coffee that doesn’t need sugar and leaves no bitter after taste!”
