Christmas In Tenterden2

30th November 2021

NFU Mutual Ashford Tenterden & Whitfield partner with Christmas in Tenterden on their new 4 day light installation for Christmas 2022

NFU Mutual Ashford, Tenterden and Whitfield are pleased to have pledged funds towards a new 4-day Christmas light installation trail in Tenterden in November 2022. The light installation trail is designed to offer the local community & visitors a safe interactive experience to come together in 2022. The project, which has received 108 backers on Spacehive, will offer everyone a free and festive event with the people of Tenterden at its heart.

The proposed light trail which has now hit its fundraising target is part of the plans for the Tenterden Christmas Market 2022. The funding will go towards four themed light installations along the high street and one walk through light tunnel, all reflecting and celebrating the towns history and amazing wildlife.

The Tenterden Christmas Market, which has been successful for several years, attracting 16,000 guests in 2019, has been postponed for the last two years due to the pandemic.

Doug Jackson, Senior Partner & NFU Group Secretary, comments: “We are thrilled to be supporting Tenterden with this magical idea, that will bring the town of Tenterden back together in November 2022. The Tenterden Christmas Market has been missed by everyone over the last two years and we are keen to support Tenterden as we help bring their new light installation to life as part of the Christmas Market 2022. With one of our three offices in Tenterden, the town, people and surrounding areas are so important to us and it’s great to give back and support our community.”

The project aims to bring local community groups together, with schools, youth clubs and day centres for the elderly working on projects to help bring the Christmas Market to life. The installations will kick start the town’s Christmas period, celebrating the town’s build and natural heritage but will also support local businesses, welcome visitors and provide a space for everyone to re-connect.

In 2019, 333 local school children worked together to create a town light installation. This programme will look to expand on this success by working in addition with local artists and crafters. By starting early in 2022, Christmas in Tenterden can integrate the light trail build into the local school’s art programme and work through the winter months with local community groups.

Seren Welch, Christmas in Tenterden joint organiser and founder of the Cowshed Workshop in Tenterden, comments: “We are ‘over the moon’ to be working with NFU Mutual Ashford, Tenterden & Whitfield as a lead partner on this project, and also so amazed and humbled by the overwhelming support from the local community to make 2022 a Christmas to remember”.
