Uncover clues, solve puzzles, and explore a seaside town with a surprising connection to one of the world’s most famous artists.
There’s more to Ramsgate than sea views and fish and chips. Thanks to Quiz Trail, you can now explore the town’s rich heritage through a fun, self-guided walking tour – and even learn about the time Vincent van Gogh called it home.
In April 1876, a 23-year-old van Gogh arrived in Ramsgate to work as a teacher at a boys’ boarding school. Having recently lost his job with an art dealer in Holland, he was on a path of self-discovery that would eventually lead him to become one of the world’s most celebrated artists. His letters from this period reveal a determined young man who preferred walking to train travel – often trekking all the way to London and back to visit his sister. That’s over 160 miles on foot!
The Ramsgate Quiz Trail brings this and other remarkable stories to life. Created by a Kent-based family team, each trail is packed with clues, puzzles, and local trivia – ideal for curious minds and energetic legs. It’s a brilliant way to see Kent towns through fresh eyes, whether you’re a visitor or a local.
