Despite the challenge of the weather, 1000’s made their way to the grand opening of the new farm shop at Lower Ladysden Farm, Winchett hill last Saturday. ‘I could not be happier’ stated Chris Kember ‘we were packed out from 9am all day, we saw so many old customers and also welcomed many newcomers to our farm’.
Significant investment has been made in a substantial new shop that showcases their home grown produce to perfection; ‘we’ve visited a lot of shops over the last ten years and given a lot of thought to what our customers might like’ add Suzie, head of retail operations. ‘We are a family farm and we want to be welcoming to our families who come fruit picking’ she added. The shop has been decorated with images from the evolution of the business and includes a wall of family pictures including farm patriarch Bob Kember who brought the family to Ladysden in 1976.
The 2019 charity partners for the maize maze were announced as being the Goudhurst Scout pack, assistant district commissioner Cathy Mummery was delighted at the news ‘ Goudhurst Scout group is delighted and grateful that Lower Ladysden farm has chosen to support us with their maze this year. We still have the last bit of a loan to pay off for our HQ extension and this will make such a difference’ . The design of the maze this year is that of Neil Armstrong taking his first steps on the moon in celebration of the 50 anniversary of the lunar landings. The Maze will be open to visitors from mid-July onwards and will also feature in some planned spooky goings on during the Halloween half term.
