Smitten with Columbia

Bean Smitten's latest coffee offering is a single estate coffee from Colombian producer, Edimer Penna. Edimer has grown coffee for 25 years on his farm El Cipres. He is a member of the Ascorcafe group, which was set up to support producers, their families and their community. The Group has 290 members, each with 1.8 - 2 hectares of land whom farm coffee up to 2100 metres above sea level.

Edimer Penna grows the Caturra variety of coffee. Once harvested, it is fully washed, pulped and fermented for up to 40 hours. The is dried for between 8 -15 days in parabolic driers. The resulting coffee works well as an espresso or filter brew presentinng flavour notes of apple, juicy plum, marzipan & dark chocolate.

Colombia is the third largest coffee producing nation and overall, the largest producer of washed Arabica. The coffee producing regions are the foothills of the Andes and the Sierra Nevada, where suitable climate conditions prevail.
