Strive to Buy Five this Christmas with Produced in Kent

It’s never too early to start planning for Christmas and this year the message to everyone is strive to Buy Five locally produced presents for your friends and family.

From jewellery to gin; hampers to hearth rugs; art to artisanal foods, Kent producers will have something for everyone.

Why are we talking about this in November? Well, good food – good anything – takes time. Many of these artists and producers are making limited editions and one-off creations, so when they’re gone, they’re gone. And smaller businesses need more time to produce quality handmade food, drink and artwork, so give these artists and producers a little more time than ‘Next Day Delivery’ to create and deliver their quality hand crafted produce to you.

If you “Buy Five” this Christmas, we can promise that two things will happen. Firstly, your lucky friends and family will feel the happy feelings of being given something rather special and unique. And secondly, you will be making an enormous difference to a local family, their local business and your community, more happy feelings! We told you shopping locally was good for the soul!

Produced in Kent has gathered ideas and offerings from its hundreds of members, into one handy Christmas Directory. There are four sections covering ‘Christmas Food’, ‘Christmas Gifts’, ‘Eat, Drink & Stay’ and ‘Experiences’.

Who are we? And why are we so passionate about supporting local businesses?

We are Produced in Kent. We’re a vital organisation in the county supporting the many outstanding food, drinks and craft businesses. We have seen how essential these businesses are to our local economy and the community and are keen to help them thrive with the Buy Five campaign this Christmas. Now you can support local by buying from the new Produced in Kent shop which is open on the lower mall at Bluewater Shopping Centre in Greenhithe.

A Kentish Feast

We are all looking forward to spending time with friends and family this Christmas. Don’t forget to pre-order your meat from your local butcher or local online delivery service. The same goes for your vegetables, help them keep on top of the rush by pre-ordering from your local farm shops or veg box delivery company.

There are lots of options to top up your favourite tipples too, from juice to beer, ciders to excellent local wines, Kent really is leading the way with award winning produce. Our distillers can also satisfy the more spiritual among us with locally distilled gins, vodkas and even a whisky. Plus, there’s toffee liqueurs and raspberry aperitifs if you prefer a nip of something sweeter.

Anyone will be delighted to receive treats like chutneys for the turkey sandwiches, interesting styles of tea and coffee and so many different types of sweet treats from local fudge makers and chocolatiers.

Kentish Decorations

Look out for locally produced handmade cards, candles for the home, and stained-glass ornaments for the tree. All made by individuals, crafted with love and care, what could be better and more personal? The hardest part will be choosing! If you still can’t make up your mind then why not go for a hamper with a bit of everything, your local retailers offer a wide range and there are lots to buy online – perfect for sending to those further afield.

Keen to get involved?

If you’re shopping locally, why not snap a picture of a festive instore display and tag @producedinkent on your social media channels. Ordering the turkey at your local butchers? Why not ask if they’d be happy to be in your selfie and tag the butcher and Produced in Kent on your stories or grid post.
