This is a critical BD role heading up the wholesale sales function of this 40-year established, employee-owned manufacturer, wholesaler and retailer.
Initially based across HQ and the production site then developing into a hybrid role allowing for customer visits; office/site working and occasional home working, the role requires regular key customer visits; attendance at national and international trade shows, product tastings and demonstrations; as well as management and motivation of the Kent-based team.

Business Development Manager - wholesale FMCG - responsibilities:
- Manage the existing customer base and upsell the range through regular contact and visits
- Be the main sales point of contact, responding to customer enquiries
- Develop new business via trade shows; trade press or other marketing initiatives
- Identify and research new markets and routes to those alongside marketing
- Nurture and develop relationships with relevant distributors
- Develop a complete knowledge of all products; understand the company’s business strategy and objectives, and the importance of this role within these
- Process and co-ordinate orders from wholesale customers and our own stores, liaising with the accounts and production departments
- Work closely with production and warehousing on matters of freight and stock control
- Maintain and update wholesale databases - sales, product, pricing and stock codes
- Monitor and report on sales performance against targets and budgets, signposting any variance
- Play an active role in new product and range development

- Driving licence and own transport
- A record of success in a client-facing B2B sales role
- An energetic and resilient personality with a passion for sales and success and a creative approach to attracting new business
- An interest in food and food trends
- Numerate and IT literate (Microsoft Office); able to learn new systems
- Highly organised with attention to fine detail
- Ability to multi-task with clear communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure and organise own work load
- A knowledge of the speciality food sector would be of advantage but not essential
