The Zingiberi Bakery scoop another award

Michelin starred Chef judges Kent food producer at the Great British Food Awards’. A family run business from Herne Bay has beaten off stiff competition from national producers to win a Great British Food Award. Michelin starred chef Richard Corrigan, of Bentley’s and Corrigan’s of Mayfair, judged The Zingiberi Bakery’s Captain’s Crackers as the best savoury snack at the awards. Ecstatic owner, Mum of four Amanda Beattie and head baker said, ‘Wow, our little Kentish business has been judged by Richard Corrigan to be the best savoury snack at The Great British Food Awards. Since we launched our crackers they’ve won three Taste of Kent Awards and six Great Taste Awards. We’ve worked so hard but we’ve also had so much support from our family and friends. This will boost our growth so we can hopefully employ local people’. The Captain’s Crackers Cracked Pepper & Sea Salt are hand made in Herne Bay by Kent born and bred Amanda and Iain Beattie. The crackers are oat based, packed with seeds, honey and olive oil, all locally sourced and packed in compostable packaging. They’re also wheat and dairy free and can be enjoyed on their own, with a delicious cheese, chutney or whatever you fancy. They are available online and in food halls, farm shops and delicatessens across the south east. In 2015 The Zingiberi Bakery started producing cookies from the proverbial kitchen table. Then Amanda created the recipe for The Captain’s Crackers in her kitchen, meanwhile her partner Iain drew a prototype box in ink and started hand making boxes in his study before later moving into an industrial premises. In 2016 their Cracked Pepper & Sea Salt crackers won Best Bakery Product and Product of the Year at The Taste of Kent Awards.
