GADDS' Build Their Own Bottling Line

After 25 years perfecting cask beer, the Ramsgate brewery has brought that same philosophy to the bottle

For years, GADDS' shipped their beer down the road to a contract bottler - a decent setup, but not one that gave them full control. Now, with a second-hand bottling line squeezed into their space, that's changed. The brewery has spent the past year building out its own in-house bottling operation, and the results are already showing.

The appeal of doing it themselves goes beyond convenience. Most bottled and canned beers are filtered and pasteurised to survive longer supply chains, but that processing strips out the character that makes cask beer so good in the first place. GADDS' aim is to bring that same unfiltered, unpasteurised, still-very-much-alive quality to their bottles - diverting beer into tanks straight from the casking line, letting the yeast settle and carbonation build over three or four days, then bottling it ready to drink the very next day.

The upshot, according to the brewery, is bottled beer that's fuller, rounder and considerably more moreish. You can find the full range of GADDS' beers, including their newly bottled Number 3, at www.ramsgatebrewery.co.uk.

Dates for the diary: GADDS' Green Hop launch day is Saturday 19th September, followed by the Great Green Hop Beer Festival on Saturday 10th October.
