July at Lenham Country Market - Courgettes, Honey and the Heart of a Kent Summer

Lenham Country Market has been at the heart of its community since 2000. Here's why July is one of the best months to visit.

By July, the vegetable garden is in full swing. Courgettes are arriving in abundance, salad leaves are lush and plentiful, and the first early tomatoes are beginning to ripen. It's the month when eating seasonally feels least like an effort and most like a genuine pleasure - because everything is so good right now.

Lenham Country Market takes place on the second Sunday of every month, between 9am and 1pm, in the beautiful village square in Lenham, ME17 2PQ. It's one of our original markets, having run continuously since 2000, and it celebrated its 25th anniversary in October 2025. That kind of longevity doesn't happen by accident - it's built on the loyalty of brilliant stallholders and a community that keeps coming back.

The market has had some notable moments over the years. In summer 2022 it was filmed for the BBC One programme The Farmers' Country Showdown, which first aired in January 2023 and is still available to watch on catch up. It won the Gold Award in the Food and Drink Market category at the Taste of Kent Awards in 2023, a Bronze in 2024, and then in March 2025 it was announced as the winner of the Farmers Market of the Year category at the Farm Retail Association Awards. We're enormously proud of that one.

July at Lenham is a particularly special time to visit. Alongside seasonal summer vegetables, you'll find local honey - perfect drizzled over everything at this time of year - freshly caught and smoked salmon, locally produced ciders and wines, artisan breads, microgreens, loose leaf teas, locally made chocolates, fresh fish, handmade soaps, game and meats and juices. Our own jams and preserves stall is there every month too - in July, look out for gooseberry jam or blackcurrant jam or a limited batch of raspberry preserve made with fruit that's at its absolute peak.

Lenham is a gem of a market in a gem of a village. If you haven't visited before, July is a wonderful time to start.
