Something Good is Growing at Quex: Pesticide-Free Veg Boxes have arrived in Kent

Summer has well and truly arrived at Quex Farms in Birchington, and with it, something exciting is taking shape in the fields. Onions, carrots, spinach, beetroot, radish, sweetheart cabbage, kohl rabi, broad beans — row after careful row of seasonal vegetables, grown without a drop of pesticide. It's the beginning of something the estate hasn't seen for decades, and it's already looking beautiful.

The decision to reintroduce vegetables at Quex came in late 2025, reviving a tradition that stretches back through the estate's long history. Market growing had been set aside years ago as the focus shifted to arable crops, but the appetite was always there to bring it back, and to do it properly. Vegetable Manager Jack Scott and his team are establishing crops on high-grade, fertile soils, using composted manures, livestock grazing on cover crops, and the kind of careful, hands-on crop management that pesticide-free growing demands. The fleece you'll spot over the young plants isn't just for warmth, it's protecting them from pigeons too, one of the gentler tricks of the trade when you're farming without chemicals.

Grown entirely on the estate, harvested in season, and rooted in a genuine commitment to the land: this is Kent produce as it should be.
