Work stops for no weather on the estate.
Our farmers are still out working hard despite the cold weather, felling trees across the estate and processing kindling in preparation to keep you warm in winter in a few years’ time. Once cut, our logs are carefully stored and seasoned for two years before making their way into our log boxes at The Potato Shop — and ultimately into your log burners.
The team have also been busy planting hundreds of metres of new hedgerows across the farm, creating valuable habitats for birds and other wildlife. With the recent cold snap, both our reservoirs and ponds have frozen over, a clear reminder that winter is still very much with us.
Although we are technically still in winter, we are already looking ahead to the spring months. Spring brings renewed energy to the farm, with the promise of warmer weather (hopefully!) and new life. As soon as conditions allow, farmers will begin drilling spring oats and spring wheat. We will also have the potato planting taking place which for the farm is a very big event! These varieties will then be harvested in the Autumn.
